Platinum Price Guide
Platinum is classified as a precious metal, because its occurrence in the earth’s crust is rare. Platinum is actually more rare than gold.
Platinum trades daily on most major exchanges around the world. It has a “spot” price like gold and silver, which represents one ounce of unfabricated metal.
Platinum (Pt) is part of the Platinum Group Metals (PGMs). It is silvery in color, and its name is actually derived from the Spanish term platina, which means “little silver.”
Given its unique chemical makeup, most of the metal is used in industrial applications, particularly in catalytic converters to reduce pollution from vehicles. Investors also prize it because of its precious metal status.
